Role of the group

The group was formed to support men on the Northern Beaches of Sydney who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer or who are concerned about the possibility of having prostate cancer.

Many of our members are survivors and partners of men with prostate cancer who have undergone treatment that has seen them in remission from the disease, particularly when it has been detected at an early stage.

Whilst we do not provide medical advice our group conducts monthly meetings where medical and allied professionals present the latest information and members have the opportunity to speak with them. At the conclusion of each meeting refreshments are provided and the friendly format allows interaction amongst the members where they can discuss their own and general issues, innovations, etc

Our monthly meetings are held from February to December on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm and are currently being held at the North Narrabeen Baptist Church, 13 Grenfell Street, North Narrabeen. Parking is available and the venue is on a bus route.

The Group has members from Manly to Palm Beach and the Pacific coast to the Roseville Bridge and everyone is welcome.

Carers are welcomed at the meetings. In addition there is from time to time a separate session to address their own issues. These are conducted by a volunteer professional counsellor.

The monthly newsletter has an approximate circulation of 200. It contains information for members, medical and allied health professionals, local parliamentary and council officials, etc.

A library collection of relevant DVD’s, books and publications is available and we encourage our members to learn more and seek information that may apply to them.

Awareness of Prostate Cancer and the Group’s supporting role is promoted through:
a series of leaflets, coasters and pens that are distributed locally, activities (which may include fundraising) by the group and with PCFA,  inclusion of local parliamentary and council officials at social events

Our monthly meetings are held from:

  • February to December on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm
  • At ‘The Cottage’ in the grounds of the Mona Vale Hospital site Coronation Street, Mona Vale

Carers are welcomed at the meetings. In addition there is from time to time a separate session to address their own issues. These are conducted by a volunteer professional counsellor.
